Highlights from Light + Building 2026
We’ve just wrapped up a few busy days at Light + Building 2026 in Frankfurt, and one thing is clear — the lighting industry is moving fast.
Walking through the halls this year, three themes kept coming up again and again.
Sustainability is no longer just a buzzword.
More manufacturers are focusing on electrification, higher efficiency systems, and solutions designed to reduce long-term energy consumption. It’s clear that sustainability is now a core part of product development, not just marketing.
Smart lighting is becoming more interconnected.
We saw a lot of discussion around AI, IoT, and open protocols. Systems using technologies like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Mesh, Matter, DALI, DMX, and Zigbee are becoming easier to integrate into building automation platforms.
Lighting is becoming more human-focused.
Human-centric lighting and adjustable environments were a big topic. Many demonstrations showed how dynamic lighting can support comfort, productivity, and overall wellbeing. Some booths even created immersive installations where lighting, architecture, and digital interaction came together.
Beyond the technology, the exhibition also highlighted creativity across the industry — from design awards and installation showcases to spaces dedicated to young designers and new startups.
Another interesting takeaway: lighting is increasingly connected with other building systems. Many exhibitors were presenting solutions that integrate lighting with building automation, smart homes, and even HVAC infrastructure.
Overall, it was a great reminder that lighting today is not just about fixtures — it's about systems, experience, and sustainability.
Looking forward to seeing how these ideas shape the market over the next few years.
