Tips for LED strips

Q:How do I know if led strips is waterproof?

A:The strips are rated by what is known as an IP rating
(Ingress protection) starting with IP20, this has no water repelling properties, IP65 is designed as splash proof, IP67 has a good level of water protection, this is generally good for exterior applications and finally IP68, being excellent
and is excepted for commercial exterior application and
great for around water features.

Q:What is voltage drop and what happens to the light quality?

A:Voltage drop happens naturally as current is turned in to light along the LED strip. Different types strips suffer differently depending the quality of the copper and length of strip.
Generally if you exceed 5 meters you should consider feeding the strip voltage at both ends or simply from the middle.
Constant current strips will have much less of a voltage
issue as the LED are regulated individually.

Q;Can the strip be cut in to smaller lengths?

A:Yes, they have cut points every few LEDs, usually shown by a scissor icon or a cut line. Only cut along the lines otherwise damage will happen to the strip and that section will have to be discarded. 12V strip will usually have a cut point every 3 LEDs and 24V every 6 LEDs.
